The thing is I love it. I don't want to say I give it up forever. But it's like, bee vomit regardless of how wonderfully their organic unsmoked only-taking-the-excess lives may be. And it's been a few months since I had it and I'm still alive. So that's my opinion.

Only if you don't tell anyone you eat it.

OK, I'm sorry, it's not vegan because it's from an animal. Here's a link about it:
http://www.vegetus.org/honey/honey.htm
And here's a link about why it is vegan.

I don't cook with it but I do put it in tea sometimes. I don't mind talking about it if anyone wants to.

i will come clean. i dont buy it or use it, but maybe two or three times a year i'll buy something that has honey in it (for example, corn chowder soup from trader joes, or a loaf of bread.) thats my story

Just don't put it on meat or cheese and you should be all cool.

It really helps to know I'm not the weakest person on the planet. I even quit cigarrettes and hard drugs, why the fork is honey a challenge?

i speak bee, so sometimes I ask them if it's ok if I take some of their honey and they usually say "sure, we can't eat all of it ourselves, just make us some really good vegan cupcakes with it ok? (bees don't eat meat or dairy or eggs either) that's pretty much the only time i eat honey.
(i'm sorry, there's nothing on tv right now and i'm waiting for some cupcake filling to chill)

For me it's pure spite.

I have some store-bought gingersnaps that have honey in them--in fact, I ate some today because I was feeling sickish earlier, and ginger helps.

I can't believe none of us are vegan. I am closing this website down.

my friends dad is a beekeeper and he and my friend made ornaments out of the beeswax at christmas time. they gave me one but i told her about the bee issue. she kept assuring me that the bees didn't get hurt so i felt bad not taking it. now it is in my house and i don't know what to do. it is a plump santa claus mold.

If there's one thing I've learned from the VF forums, it's that I'm a much happier person simply trying to practice my own personal definition of "vegan" than trying to live up to other's expectations of what that should or shouldn't entail.
Honey's the kind of timeless debate which makes ex-vegans.

hey i siged you on this, because it made me laugh outloud. I imagined you, with hairnet and ladle, talking to a little cartoon bee.

NOT VEGAN!! at the end of the day, we need to make sure that "vegan" means something. and what it should mean is whatever someone else who knows better says it should mean.
what the hell is WRONG with you people?
p.s. i don't love honey, so i don't mind not having it. since i don't generally use it, i feel justified in going back to heroin.

I thought this was a politic way of talking about it:
"When cooking or labeling food for vegans -- particularly vegans you don't know -- it's best to be on the safe side and not include honey. As for vegan advocacy, we think it's best to avoid the issue as a defining one."

I've considered quitting honey twice. Once when I asked Akil if he ate honey and he said "Fuuuuck that" (because I want to be like Akil) and once when a vegan ex (not ex vegan) and I were talking about it. I said basically that I didn't know if I had room in my heart for insects and that I probably had more compassion for plants. And then we were discussing whether or not bees are practicing programmed behavior or if they are thinking for themselves. And he said something about a bee flying home to it's family. But now that I am writing this out I am wondering if bees to recognize their families. Anyway, when he said that I decided to give up honey. But that was only a week or so ago.
Actually, I also decided to give it up when I started being interviewed for stuff, just to avoid confusion. Or I thought about not calling myself vegan. Maybe Beegan.
