LA: Haiti Bake Sale

UPDATED:
Updatey Update of Updatedness!
(Now with Super New Edited Flavor!)

Location: Locali - who has informed me that they will be donating a percentage of their sales that day
Date: Jan 31st
Time: 11-4

.....................

I've got a coworker that's down to do this, so let's plan something.

I'm also putting out a call to arms on the Quarrygirl forums and on my blog.

What say you, LA?

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

Woo! I've been getting some Twitter feedback as well, thanks to Isa's pimpage.

How does the weekend of the 30th sound?

Any ideas for venues? Would some local vegan places like to donate items? Ideas for charities?

(Honestly, I didn't do any pre-planning here, I just saw Isa's post and thought "Hey! Us too!")

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

Locali hosted a bake sale previously... maybe they will again?

Now that we have a time, I'm going to start bugging Bunny Muffin, C'est La V, and Fakery Bakery. I think Babycakes would be a really good addition as well, especially if anyone's got a contact.

Gonna work on flyers tonight - Locali said that we can give them to A Taste of Life so that they can give out flyers at the Hollywood Farmer's Market on Sunday.

As for the charity, let's decide on something. I've been thinking Doctors Without Borders, but if anyone has any super reputable, local charities in mind, I'd love to know. big_smile

Wow!  That was fast!  That's a great location and I think DWB is a great choice.  I'll bake something.

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

I'd love to help! I might be busy later in the day because it is my grandfather's birthday, but I could probably help in the morning. I'll post it on the bake me up blog. (Rageandlove, maybe I could get a ride with you if I'm dropped off at your house?)

I'll bring a couple gluten, soy, rice, and nut free items along with normal stuff. I wonder if I can bribe Brea Grant to come with cinnamon rolls? Shall attempt!

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

Woot! It's more than ok, it's jawesome!

I officially don't have any tables, though I might be able to steal a card table off of a friend. Does anyone have a glut of tables that they could bring?

I put DWB on the Facebook invites, I can change it if there's a popular disagreement.

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

I was just discussing this with rageandlove actually - My parents bought a light, foldable table just for future bake sales. I think it folds out to 6 or 9 feet. I can bring that, if rageandlove has room!

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

I'd like to contribute with some bake goods, but that would be almost impossible.
Anyway, I'll drop by to get a cookie (or more, who knows ?) if my family accepts to go on a mini road trip to LA.

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

I would love to bake some stuff and participate! I know exactly where Locali is and it would be easy for me to get there. This would be my first bake sale! How exciting!

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

If I have the day free, I might be able to bring the little folding table I have here.  I'll check the dimensions and get back to y'all.

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

A problem we ran into last time was serving items.. Presenting the food, utensils to cut the food, gloves to handle it all, and bags to put everything in when we sold it. Well, not that much of an issue.. I think we ran out of bags once though? Or the plastic container thingies.. But yeah, if you can't bring baked goods or tables, a good thing would be gloves for everyone and bags/plastic containers for dessert items!

I'm looking forward to meeting you all/seeing some of you again.

Edited: Oh god, and lots of calculators, paper, and pens/pencils. And a box for the money (?). Napkins! Smaller paper plates, possibly saran wrap.. We should make a list of how much everything cost. That was a bisque to remember. Oh, and signs saying what everything is maybe.

I'm just thinking of random stuff. WE DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANY OF THIS.

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

Well shoot, I have TONS of small paper plates, utensils,  and some napkins leftover from my wedding!  I'll go thru it all and take inventory.

As far as packaging goes, if it's possible for people to bag/wrap things before bringing them (I think Isa mentioned it in her blog post) it helps so so much.

Re: LA: Haiti Bake Sale

Really? What did we run out of?! Am I just making stuff up again?

Bethamphatamine - That would be logical but we are talking about L.A. I don't think anyone really packaged it last time.. Hopefully it will be different this time! Lard knows transporting a pre-cut bundt cake would be so much easier. And yay for lots of items!
