IT'S MY FIRST VEGAN-IVERSARY!

In August 2008, while on vacation at my mom's house in Florida, my brother's girlfirend and I got to talking about Mad Cowboy and being vegetarian (I'd been an ovo-lacto for almost 9 years at that point, and she'd been ovo-lacto-with-the-occassional-salmon since junior high) and how veganism was obviously the next logical step. We decided that if we were available to support and encourage each other, the switch would be a lot easier. We gave ourselves until October 1, 2008, to eat all of the non-vegan food each of us had at home, find cookbooks, and eat whatever "last" foods we felt we needed (Snickers, I still miss you). Shortly after returning to Illinois, I bought a copy of Vegan with a Vengeance, and I'm convinced that one book made the switch incredibly easy. Because of my decision to go vegan, I discovered my love of cooking, which is leading me to a new career path. I plan to start culinary school in July 2010, provided we can sell our house and get moved. As a bonus, my husband, who ate vegetarian at home but omni out in the world, went vegan on Oct. 1st as well as a show of support for my decision. (Yeah, he's the best.) It's been an incredible year filled with incredible food, and the PPK has been a huge part of that. So thank you for the support and friendship I've found here. You guys made the transition as easy as vegan key lime pie!

Yes, my brother's girlfriend is still vegan, and my brother has now gone vegan too! We're spreading like wildfire over here! Shannon (the girlfriend) and I are planning to go to culinary school together and then start our own personal chefs/catering business, angling to eventually open a restaurant. Suddenly, I have direction in my life, and it's food!

No, I haven't had a Peanut Chew. I'm marooned smack-dab in the middle of the Midwest, and I've so far balked at ordering in bulk (HA!). PMing you now...

I'll clean it out - you can email me though!  Send your address - no one should ever be deprived of the great peanut chew.  Also I might have found another version of the peanut chew (as well as some chocolate hazelnut cookie/chips?  like in a little baggie?) in a hasidic neighborhood nearby and plan on checking it out asap!
