Fellow PPKers,
We are preparing for a global deluge of media outlets... a metaphoric flooding of inboxes with the official VeganMoFo Press Release! You can help!
We want anyone and everyone to personalize, and then send this press release to their local daily and weekly newspapers. This is a long post, but this process is really easy, and can take as little as 10 minutes of your time. Do it!
Instructions follow:
1. Read the press release (below), and then personalize it. At the very least, include your name, phone number, and email address as the CONTACT, at the very top; and make sure the date is accurate. If you are participating in VeganMoFo, or you know other local bloggers who are, modify the 4th paragraph with the appropriate names, links, and details. What I wrote in paragraph four is just a sampling, which can be modified as much as you want. But please, double check for spelling errors. If you don't want to bother personalizing the press release, just remove the 4th paragraph altogether.
2. Make a list of all the local newspapers and weeklies with food sections. Then, look them up online, and look for the "contacts" or "editors" link. Try to find out the name and email address of the person in charge of writing about food. Sometimes you may have to call the front desk to find out this info.
*** If you live in a city with lots of other vegans, please make a point of having only one person be sending out press releases.
3. Send the press release, with a BRIEF personalized message to the food editors (ie. ONE SENTENCE). Don't send it as an attachment, but in the body of the email. If you'd like to, you can send along the veganmofo III graphic* as an attachment, and/or a particularly beautiful vegan food photo of YOUR OWN. Occasionally, if you feel like you've got the moxie and you can sound professional and enthusiastic, it's good to call the person first and either speak with them or leave a message, about this very exciting thing that's going on, and you're about to email them a press release. Please read the press release thoroughly, once or twice, before calling. It really helps. Obviously, if you don't think you can pull that off in a professional way, just send the email without the call.
email subject title: "Press Release: Vegan Month of Food (VeganMoFo)"

4. Once you've sent the press release, come back to this thread and post the names of the papers/media outlets you've sent it to.
woooooo hooooooooo! let's do this thing!

THE PRESS RELEASE:
PRESS ADVISORY
October 1st, 2009: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: YOUR NAME HERE, YOUR PHONE NUMBER, YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS
VeganMoFo III:
Vegan Month of Food, with over 350 Blogs Participating
Third time’s the charm, as the 3rd Annual Vegan Month of Food (aka VeganMoFo) prepares to take the blogosphere by storm. Starting October 1st, over 350 bloggers from all around the globe will pledge to post about vegan food at least five days a week for the whole month of October. The most dedicated participants try to blog all 31 days. Food writers, bloggers, and home cooks will write about what they eat and what they cook, all with the intention of showing off the wide and varied world of vegan food.
VeganMoFo kicks off on October 1st and continues through the month of October. You can find the alphabetized list of all participating blogs online at Cake Maker to the Stars (http://kitteekake.blogspot.com). There you can also find a link to the public RSS feed, where anyone can browse the latest posts from all the participating blogs in one place! (http://kitteekake.blogspot.com/2009/09/ … -info.html)
First organized by vegan chef and cookbook author Isa Chandra Moskowitz (theppk.com), VeganMoFo has been gathering more and more enthusiasts each year. Participants begin brainstorming themes for their month-of-daily-entries with great enthusiasm. In previous years, bloggers have written about everything from veganizing grandma’s recipes, to eating in foreign countries, to 31 days of vegan Halloween-themed treats. Posts include beautiful photographs, tantalizing recipes, and thoughtful musings.
{Local blogger YOUR NAME HERE is one of the bloggers participating this year. YOUR NAME HERE first began HIS/HER blog “YOUR BLOG NAME HERE” (YOUR BLOG URL HERE) in YEAR. “YOUR BLOG NAME HERE” focuses on beautiful photography of home cooked meals, local restaurant reviews, vegan versions of old family recipes, thoughts on following a vegan diet, personal recipes, and much more. }
VeganMoFo is a grassroots event that evolved from a community of vegans who love to cook, love to be vegan, and are passionate about sharing their love of vegan food with the rest of the world. Anyone interested in food should definitely go online and check it out. But, be prepared for a growling stomach!
