SF Bay Area: CLOSED - The Usual Suspects Cafe

Yup, it's over.  Ted (my roommate/chef partner) and I walked out yesterday just before dinner service.  The owner has been abusing the staff and creating a hostile work environment for too long, so it had to stop.
It's come to my attention that someone is trying to help the owner find new chefs, but I implore all local people to protest the restaurant's revival.  If you want the details then PM me; I don't think I should post the whole story online because I don't want to get sued for slander.

Ummm. We didn't just hold hands. In fact there was Papa Johns garlic sauce involved when we both "coincidently" had to use the restroom at the same time. The door lock really didn't break causing the 45 minute long event. Just thought you should know. -psycwon

Re: SF Bay Area: CLOSED - The Usual Suspects Cafe

Sorry, there's no clearing up to be done.  The cafe, as far as we're concerned, is closed.  The owner has no chefs and no prospects, so I wouldn't bank on it.

Oh dear.  That was fast.  And I was planning to go next week when I'm in the area!  I guess I'll have to stop by Melliser's house and beg for treats.

I hope the pate was raised from humanely treated geese who lived in a luxury goose condo and was fed the finest of grains  and the deer was caught during the full moon by a hunter dressed as a fawn who gently squeezed the life out of the deer using a velvet ribbon while singing, "Kumbaya." - thevegantwins

As someone who was a witness to many of the things Mark mentioned above, I fully agree that this is not a place you should be patronizing if it does reopen in any capacity.

Abusing the staff and creating a hostile work environment is no way to run a restaurant; I'm sorry to hear that it came to having to walk out and I hope you all find new, better employment soon!!

This was for the best then, because now you can live your dream (I'm guessing) and have your own place. While I enjoyed my experience there, I'm honestly really really glad you guys walked out. I heard about the BS and was hoping you guys would leave. Nothing is worth putting up with that crepe. The owner did not deserve you guys

this is so sad to hear!  yet i'm not completely surprised...  when i went the owner seemed like a total creepy freak show, hovering over all you guys.  the chefs were clearly the entire reason for going, and i cannot wait for your new restaurant!  we'll all tell every single person we know to go and make you a success.

Re: SF Bay Area: CLOSED - The Usual Suspects Cafe

Good for you for getting yourself out of a lousy situation. I mean sure, the location was unbeatable but you guys will be able to find something new (preferably closer to my house...how does the upper haight sound?). You already have a following!

Yeah, the owner seemed kind of like a crazy. I'm pretty sure and he was at the restaurant every time I went, just hanging out at that front table...what the hell was he even doing?

I definitely won't be supporting any business venture by that guy.

Mark, don't go to Oakland.  Apparently there's some sort of horrible coughing virus going around there.

The cafe was great for exposure, but I already had quite a few orders before they came along.

Oh man this is soo sad! I was so excited to see a new vegan resto in the city, but I guess it was for the best. I look forward to possibly seeing another new one!
