ATLANTA potluck or restaurant meetup??

How many Atlanta folks (and from surrounding areas) are interested in a meetup?  The weather is getting nicer (just ignore the fact that it snowed at my house last week and was hot yesterday and will rain all this week), and it would be so much fun to meetup, hang out, have fun and stuff our faces!

I thought it would be cool to have a potluck at Piedmont Park or something.   Maybe do a brunch or lunch potluck and everyone can bring 1 or 2 dishes?  I could even make a flyer or something and put it up at Cosmos Vegan Shoppe to let other area peeps know about it (since it seems like only a handful of folks from Atlanta are on here and there are quite a few vegans around here) and on the ATL veg meetup board on yahoo.

So, when should we do it?  How many people are interested in such a thing?  Is alcohol allowed at piedmont park?  Can someone bring lots of cupcakes?!

Yay!!  OK - does Piedmont Park sound good?  I've only ever been to that park before and know it usually gets crowded as the weather gets warmer.  So feel free to offer up any suggestions if you know of something better!

bakedgoods, if we planned it far enough in advance for a weekend would you be able to make it?  it would awesome if you brought lots of cupcakes!!

When are you moving back to Florida?  You can stop by our potluck and grab some Harmony to go!

Re: ATLANTA potluck or restaurant meetup??

I'm definitely down for the meetup. I think putting flyers at cosmos would be a great idea. I have classes on Saturday's until 3:15 until the first week in May but any other time would be good for me. Keep me in the loop!

Re: ATLANTA potluck or restaurant meetup??

Hey, if the date is congenial for my schedule, I may take the trek down there, provided I get to have one of my meals at Harmony as well!   Been meaning to get to ATL sometime and its less than a 3 hour drive.

Re: ATLANTA potluck or restaurant meetup??

If it';s the first weekend in April I might be able to make it. I'm headed down to visit my dad. I leave sunday afternoon though, so if it's Saturday I could stop by.

Re: ATLANTA potluck or restaurant meetup??

yay! OK, awesome...so we'll definitely do it on a Sunday since bakedgoods works Saturdays and guineapig has classes on Saturday afternoons.

Does that work for everyone else??

How does Piedmont Park sound?  I'm starting to think it's going to be too crowded, does anyone else think that?  I'll look at the Fulton County and Dekalb County parks website and find alternatives just in case.

What date works good for everyone?  I figure it should be the beginning of April - gives us enough time to plan a date, time, who's coming, let more people know, etc.

Anyone have an idea of the dishes they want to bring?  I can start a list of people coming and what they're bringing!

Re: ATLANTA potluck or restaurant meetup??

Hey ya'll, I don't feel like working so i'm in planning mode...

Piedmont Park: http://www.piedmontpark.org/

I think we've all been here, I love this park so much - but it can get crazy jam packed as the weather gets warmer.

Candler Park, has anyone been there?  It's near a MARTA station, too, so that would work out if anyone is taking that (I know, Atlanta is a car town!).

http://www.atlanta-midtown.com/neighbor … a/candler/

It's such a beautiful neighborhood and close to l5p if anyone feels like walking off food afterwards or going out for a drink.

Grant Park: http://gpconservancy.org/

Ideas?

My flights at 2pm.

It'd be cool to come, but don't change all the plans on my account. It wa sjust a thought since I'd be around.

I've found a few places to go eat...any suggestions? I'm going to Mellow Mushroom first, because I love them!

World Peace Cafe (Sandy Springs)
Veggieland (Buckhead)
R. Thomas Grill (Buckhead area)
Cenci (East Atlanta Village)

Thanks! I was planning on going to R. Thomas, I've been there before, and I also wanted to check out Cafe Sunflower. I'll check the rest out too.

Ahh man!  Well, i'm sure we will have more of them - it'd be great to have one once a month I think and it'd be awesome if you could make it down to hang out with us!

I hope you have fun on your field trip!

Awesome!!!  I'm so excited, this is going to be a blaaast!

Ok, so bakedgoods is bringing cupcakes

guineapig, are there any dishes you would like people to bring to complement your recipes?

Lori from http://pleasantlyplumpvegan.blogspot.com/ will be there w/ her hubby Jared - i'll find out what she plans to bring and post it here.

I'm taking my hubby along; I still need to decide what dishes i'm going to bring.

dirtysouthvegan replied to my pm that she might be able to come and i'm going to pm applexcore to see if she can make it.

So does Candler Park sound good?  I'll do a drive-by this weekend and see how good it is for picnicing.

Since we're doing it outside I'm going to do cold dishes...the classic picnic food potato salad, and a Caesar salad with garlic croutons and possibly my world famous (ok...so only about a dozen people in the world have tasted them but i love em) Dilla's.
